Notes: snaefellsnes, snaefellsnes peninsula, snaefellsnes small group, snaefellsnes travel, snaefellsnes trip
We start out from Reykjavik via the Hvalfjordur Tunnel towards Borganes. First stop is an amazing salmon river where the rich and famous come to flyfish. From there we continue into Snæfellsnes volcanic area where you’ll see the most famous and photographed crater in Iceland: Eldborg. Next stop is “Mars” an ancient red coloured volcanic crater where you can see all the colours of the gasses capsuled in the volcanic rock.
Then it’s time to bathe like a Viking in perfect 38 C (100.4 F) warm water in a wilderness pool overlooking the mountains – a unique Icelandic experience. Warm and high on nature it’s time for lunch at one of the cozy local guest houses called Langaholt, where they are famous for their hearty, homemade cooking. Next stop is Budir an ancient trade hub used by the very first Icelanders. Here you will se one of the most photographed churches in Iceland. A tiny pitch-black church from 1703 surrounded by an ancient lava field a stone’s throw from the ocean.
From there we continue to the idyllic Arnarstapi from where we will do a short hike to Arnarstapi harbour and enjoy the amazing view over the basalt columns and rock formations. Take a moment to admire the sea gulls diving in and out of the sky. The hike takes us to the tiny harbor of Arnarstapi nestled under the rocks. We then continue by the roots of Snæfellsjökull Volcano made famous by Jules Verne in his book Journey to the Center of the Earth.
Our next stop is one of the most magical places we know: Djupalon black pebble beach by the foot of Snæfelsnesjökul glacier. This beach is truly magical. Give yourself a moment to feel small and listen to the roaring, gigantic Atlantic Ocean washing over millions of black pebble stones. Look down and find your lucky stone.
In the summer we can continue the adventure around the peninsula passing small fishing villages and amazing scenery towards the stunning Kirkjufell Mountain. Here we will make a stop to enjoy it and take photos and maybe say hi to some local horses before we head back to Reykjavik. Your camera will love this tour and you’ll be sure to catch some stunning pictures no matter the weather and season.
This is Iceland in a nutshell. And it’s still unexplored by the masses – so come and see it before it’s too late!
Dont take our work for it, here are few Tripadvisor comments.
“Our family of four id the full day Magical Snæfellsnes tour with Siggi – a long but fantastic day. We really felt like we got off the beaten track and experienced a beautiful part of Iceland. From bathing in a geothermal pool in the middle of nowhere ( don’t miss this experience) to walking on a pristine black sand beach this tour had it all. Siggi was a great guide – incredibly knowledgeable and excellent company for a full day and never made us feel rushed or like we were on a strict time focused itinerary. During the booking process Goeeco were a great company to deal with – responsive and prompt. Highly recommended.”

“We did two tours with Goecco – Ice Cave Express and Snaefellsnes. Both trip were very organized and our two local guides were amazing. The ice cave express was the only group tour which I found that does ice cave and glacier in one day. The trip was long but our guide made it very enjoyable. The bus was very comfortable and we had enough stops on our way for food, rest, and fresh air. The Snaefellsnes tour was even better because there were only 4 ppl in our group and I almost felt it was like a private tour. Our guide, Asgeir, is very knowledgable, considerate, and a pleasure to talk with. He drives well and has a good selection of icelandic music. Apparently he is a part time guide and the other half time he is a hot actor in Iceland. I would recommend Goecco to anyone who do not want to drive but want to have a great experience in iceland.”

“My boyfriend and I booked 2 tours with Goecco: Snaeffellsnes and the 4 elements, and we could not have had a better experience!
Our first tour with Hlynar was the Snaefellsnes peninsula day tour. It was a very long and rainy day (about 12 hours), but Hlynar made sure that we had the full experience! Even in the rain, the peninsula is worth it. Our second stop (my favorite) was a tiny geothermal pool, where our group were the only ones around. This tour company clearly knows all the secret spots. Even though I like to chat (a lot!) Hlynar never got tired of answering my questions. I recommend this tour in any weather!
Our 2nd day out with Goecco we were supposed to take the 4 elements tour, but as we were the only people signed up they could have canceled it. Instead Halli (who looks like he has just stepped off a Viking ship) and his assistant Marcus offered us the opportunity to go search out new ice caves. Seeing this as the opportunity that it was we of course jumped at the opportunity to explore! Halli and Marcus took us up into the highlands to explore the Landmannalauger trail, which can can only be hiked or accessed by a heavy duty jeep. We ended up finding a snow cave, and exploring the surrounding area. It is hard to describe how it feels to enter a cave made of snow that no one else has ever entered… A hint of danger, but mostly awe and exhilaration! That was just one small bit of the whole day. What brought the whole day together was the passion that Halli has for his country, and Marcus’s kind, easy going spirit.(seriously Goecco, permanently hire this kid!)
Our experience with Goecco was real, authentic Iceland! I would not hesitate to recommend this company!”

“Goecco is more expensive then some tour groups, but well worth it. My daughter and I did the Snaefellsnes tour with Halli Hansen. He was an incredible guide, lots of fun and informative. We felt like we were out having fun in Iceland with friends! Skip all the Golden Circle Tours and do the Goecco tours. Wish we had done the 4 elements all year ice cave tour. Highly recommend Goecco and Halli!”
