Our 4×4 truck will work hard through the lunar landscape and chew its way through rocks, ice and snow to get us there. Depending on the conditions on the day and how far we can drive we will do a short hike up to the ice cave.
All our guides are specially trained so listen carefully to their safety instructions and always wear your helmet. We stay around 45 minutes in the ice cave. As the caves have become very popular there will be other groups in the cave at the same time.
Once you enter an ice cave you’ll see that it’s simply a once in a lifetime experience being inside one of the wonders of the world. It’s like standing under a frozen blue ocean or in a frozen cathedral with a million shades of white and blue.
As ice caving has become the no. 1 popular thing to do in Iceland, you must expect other people in the ice caves especially around national holidays.
All images you see on our website are shot on our tours the past seasons. However, ice caves change every season and are reborn with the meltwater from the Summer season, so the ice caves will NOT be exactly like the images you see here. The images can only be used as a guidance. We just have to wait and see what Mother Nature makes for us each season.
We meet by the café at Jökulsarlon/Glacier Lagoon at 09:00 and 12:00, it is best to be there 15 minutes before.

“The ice cave tour is an amazing experience in the winter”
5 of 5 stars
“We booked the ice cave tour that departed from Glacier Lagoon, and it was an incredible experience. Goecco picks you up in a 4×4 at the lagoon and drives you to a nearby ice cave inside a glacier. You walk inside the cave and get to explore for a bit. The guides are very knowledgeable and explain how the cave was formed and other details. Would definitely recommend choosing the tour. Ours was about 2.5 hours long in total, but there are other longer tours if you are interested. We loved the short tour because it fit right into our schedule.”

“My wife and I had a wonderful experience with GoEcco!! Our guide was fantastic, the experience was incredible, and we took AMAZING pictures inside the cave (see example). Below some of the tour’s basic info and highlights
Basic info on the tour:
+ We took the 12pm Ice Caves tour starting from Glacier Lagoon
+ We met in the parking lot of the Glacier Lagoon Cafe
+ The tour started right on schedule, and our guide was Gunnar (amazing guide!)
+ The first piece of the tour is a drive on a big 4×4 truck towards Crystal Cave‘
+ During the ride, Gunnar shared a lot of interesting and funny stories about Iceland and the neighbouring attractions. He also provided a lot of insider tips on things to do around the island
+ Then, we had roughly 45-60 minutes inside the cave
+ Next, there is a short hike on the glacier, wearing crampons (you put them over your regular hiking shoes)
+ We finally got back in the truck and drove back to the glacier lagoon
+ Knowledgeable, relaxed, and funny guide, we did not feel rushed or pressured at all
+ The crystal cave is AMAZING! Completely breathtaking, we had never seen something like this
+ Our guide let my wife and I stay in the cave instead of going to the glacier walk (we had done a glacier walk the day before). We were COMPLETELY ALONE in the cavefor roughly 10 minutes! It was beautiful, and we got amazing photos
+ We left an item in the truck and Gunnar went out of his way and delivered it back to the reception of a nearby hotel. We got it back with no problem at all!
Thank you Gunnar and GoEcco team for a great experience!”

“By far the highlight of our 8 days in Iceland. Our tour was intimate with only 4 people in comparison to the other groups at the cave that had about 20 people each. Our guides were extremely knowledgeable and happy to teach us about the glacier and the history of the region.
We knew we were somewhere special when our guides started taking our their cameras to take pictures themselves and saying “this never gets old”. The tour was 2 hours in total and we spent a solid full hour in the ice cave which was the perfect amount of time. Since the tour wasn’t too long, we had ample time before and after to experience the glacier Lagoon and crystal beach- 2 places that should not be missed!!!
Goecco being a family owned and run tour company made us feel like we were giving back to Iceland in the right way- and the fact that they utilize old search and rescue vehicles for their tours also contributed to feeling good about where our money was going.
There are no words to explain how amazing the glacier and the crystal cave are – we kept finding ourselves staring in silence being in complete awe over the day.
I urge anyone visiting Iceland and spending time on the south coast in the winter to sign up for this tour- you will not regret it!!!”

“A spiritual awakening!
We met for the ice caves at the vatnajokull glacier and hopped in a van where we drove out to the edge of the glacier. Here we put on supplied crampons for walking on the ice and started trekking over the glacier to the cave. Our guide, Halli Hansen fascinated us with his knowledge of not only glaciers but local facts and insightful deep thoughts on human life and our connection with the earth. We used a rope to get to the bottom of the caves and got to explore through the beautiful blue ice, take pictures, and drink glacier water. We had a private cave that our guide specifically found the day prior on his daily treks among glaciers. We later learned he is the location manager for game of thrones, is friends with the hound and has arm wrestled Jon snow! One of the highlights of our trip, highly recommended!”
