The Most Awesome Parents in the World Tour!
family adventure iceland tourmily adventure iceland tour
This tour is simply the most thrilling way to experience the amazing nature of Iceland for the adrenaline-seeking family.
We are talking super jeeps, jet boat, RIB safari, zip line, helicopter-ride, snowmobiling, puffin-spotting, whale watching, glacier-climbing, Vikings, and all the classic sights of Iceland in one tour!
…and at least for the next 6 days, your kids will think you are the most awesome parents in the world!
Note: This tour is suited for families with kids aged 10 years and up. Note: All of this can also be done as separate day tours from Reykjavik if you want a shorter itinerary or just one day of fun. You just pick and choose and we will do the math.
DAY 1 Whales & Puffins
After settling into your hotel in Reykjavik your first adventure awaits: An exciting RIB boat safari to go puffin and whale spotting in the bay of Reykjavik. This is a perfect way to get up close and personal with the gentle giants of Iceland. Stay the night in Reykjavik.
DAY 2 Golden Circle & Riverjet
Today you will ride along Golden Circle route for Iceland’s most famous highlights: Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir and Thingvellir National Park and tectonic plates. In the afternoon, you climb aboard a thrilling river jet boat ride through the white waters of Hvita river just below Gullfoss Waterfall. You will speed through narrow basalt canyon, be exhilarated by 360 spins on the “milky white” river and jump the rapids like James Bond! You will also get to enjoy the amazing scenery from open deltas, dramatic canyons and white water rapids to rich bird life. The 40-minute river ride guarantees an adrenaline rush for both young and old! Then it is time to wind down a little and do some geothermal bathing in the warm and steamy Secret Lagoon. We continue our adventure to our hotel on the South Shore to settle for the night.
DAY 3 Helicopter & Zip Line
Next morning you’ll be viewing Iceland from above. We’ll board our helicopter-ride close to our hotel, which will take us up to the highlands of Thorsmork and Myrdalsjokull Glacier. To see Iceland from above is a truly beautiful, almost surreal view of how glaciers and volcanoes have shaped the country. Another exciting adventure awaits in the afternoon. We will try out Iceland’s only zip line. Next thing you know, you are zipping above a canyon, heart pumping with excitement and having the best birds-eye view of the area that you can’t imagine beforehand.
Then we take a short hike through amazing rock formation of Grafargil (Grave Canyon) to the next activity, named Leap of Faith. Then follows the second zip-line called Little Rush, it will take you over a stunning waterfall, named Hundafoss. On the way back to our hotel we stop by the powerful Reynisfjara Beach black pebble beach with its basalt formations and columns that have inspired many landmarks like Hallgrims Church, Harpa music hall and our National Theatre. Last stop of the day is the postcard-perfect Skogafoss Waterfall. Back to our hotel.
DAY 4 Snowmobile & Glacier Hike
Today is the big glacier explorer day! First, you will do an exciting glacier walk onto one of Iceland’s most famous glaciers: Solheimajokull. We put on our crampons and grab our ice axes. As we step onto the glacier we will be reminded of the vast forces of nature and the massive, untameable powers that carved out the mountains and fjords of Iceland. You will see layers of volcanic ash capsuled within the ice, deep crevasses and mysterious moulins. And we will see the visible signs of climate change and talk about how it affects us all. And then it is time to see the glacier from another perspective as we move onto another part of the Myrdahlsjokull Glacier to have some snowmobiling fun: The best way to travel on a glacier! We are sure the whole family will enjoy this! Back to our hotel.
DAY 5 Super Jeep & Volcanoes
Today it is all about volcanoes. First stop is the brand new Lava Center, where we will learn everything about the Icelandic volcanoes. Now it’s time to let the Super Jeep chew through the volcanic and moonlike landscape up the sides of the famous Hekla Volcano, also known as the Gateway to Hell. We climb as high as 1000 m (3280’) above sea level to enjoy the fascinating view over Fjallabak Nature Reserve and some of Iceland’s magnificent glaciers. We continue into the famous Landmannalaugar with its colourful mountains and famous hiking trails. Here we can hike or take a dip in the popular natural geothermal pool with great mountain views. We head back to Reykjavik for the night.
DAY 6 Become a Viking
Today we will transform into Vikings and have our portraits taken by MINK Viking studio. This is an amazing souvenir to bring back after a thrilling holiday in the land of the Vikings. We will also learn more about the Vikings by visiting the Saga Museum and end the day we celebrate an amazing holiday with a true Viking Dinner in Hafnarfjordur Viking Village.

ACCOMMODATION 3 nights at
We are family of 4 (kids 12&10) who travel a lot and are always looking for new adventures off beaten path. This time we booked 3 days private tour with Goecco and we had just a dream vocation! Our driver guide Atli was the best guide we ever had. He met us at the airport at 6am (even though Goecco warned us that earliest pick up was 9am). His knowledge of the places he showed us, his constant attention to every detail, his concern about our safety- and about our fun- was truly one of a kind. This man is a walking encyclopedia- he told us so much about the history of Iceland, glaciers, volcanoes, even types of rocks we came across- and kids loved his stories about trolls and old heroes!
Atli went above and beyond taking us to more places than we ever dreamed to see- and doing his best to beat the crowds (successfully so!). In spite of busy Christmas vocation week he made us feel that we were alone in the beautiful wonderland of Iceland- we found ourselves in an icy cave with waterfall, listened to the glacier slowly moving in the dark of the night and hiked up the glacier where there was no one- just sun, wind and ice… truly unforgettable experience! Atli’s kindness and sense of humor made us feel that we knew him for a long time- and we are looking forward coming to Iceland again in summer and hopefully see our friend again.

To those of you reading this review. If you haven’t yet, flip for the private/semi-private tours. The personal attention and relaxing conditions are SSSSSOOOOO very much better than the monstrous public tours…. miss the huge crowds at the sites, the over crowded busses, and the lack of one on one….
Absolutely Awesome time.
We would give Goecco and our tour guide Atli 6 stars if we could for our fabulous private tour of South Iceland. Understanding that a private tour is not for everyone, we still think the value was incredible as we did so many things we never otherwise would have or could have without the flexibility of being on our own, combined with our guide Atli’s enthusiasm to show us every nook and cranny the South coast has to offer.
We saw all the popular tourist sites mentioned on Goecco’s website and then made countless stops in between and beyond that only an experienced guide would be able to show us. We modified the itinerary/order of activities on the fly based on the weather and even went to the same place twice if we could get better pictures. Goecco was extremely responsive and honest about cost and options all the way through the process and they were able to accommodate specific requests – like fitting in a glacier snowmobiling excursion on the last day.
Most important to the experience was our guide Atli, who went out of his way time and time again to share the beauty and culture of Iceland with us every step of the way. “No” was not in his vocabulary and even the little things he did made the biggest difference (from allowing us to use his phone as a mobile hotspot while on the road to making sure we had plenty of drinks and snacks for the longer drives). He shared all of the photos he took over our three days immediately after the tour and we look forward to staying in touch with him about Iceland and beyond. Our thanks again to Goecco and Atli for an amazing experience.

Just went on the 3 day Goecco tour with my son to celebrate his 25th birthday. We were both thrilled about experiencing Iceland with Goecco. They made it so easy. Kudos to our tour guide, Atli, who was both knowledgeable and respectful of the land. Saw the Geysir ( the Icelandic spelling!) waterfalls, walked on the glacier with crampons, and amazing Northern Lights. Food was good. Modest accommodations were clean and comfortable. All told, GoEcco’s three day tour exceeded out expectations.
